Monkey Meat the Summer Batch #1 is out this week!
Happy greetings from the Monkey Meat company!
This week, we’re releasing the first issue of our 5 part batch of comics: Monkey Meat the Summer Batch, out March 5th! Two stories per issue in this anthology format! You can jump in right away regardless of having read the first volume.
The fabulous (yes: dystopian, horrific, exploitative…but also weirdly funny?) Monkey Meat Island is a tropical haven of West African inspired fantasy, clenched in the iron fist of the Monkey Meat corporation, squeezing it for all its worth. Be it natural resources, people, or the apes that constitute both its primary food product, and its primary work force. A land of corporate-backed adventure and discovery! Now of course stories of poor conditions on the island may have surfaced, and we’re not saying they’re true! (the Monkey Meat corporation waves any liability as to any and all workers or guests getting maimed, attacked, squashed by giant monsters or having their organs stolen by demonic crooks) but they certainly make for nice advertisement!
The Monkey Meat corporation thus invites you to witness stories of the unfortunate souls who work at or visit our island. The disturbing tales of corporate warriors cleaning ancient holy lands for real-estate development projects, a tech-obsessed fit-girl exploiting her recent bio-hack to reach omnipotence to horrific consequences, a Conan-style adventure at the dawn of time to redirect humanity on a better path, or a well-to-do senegalese family fighting a demon for control of their Mbnb!
In this first issue, our most prized worker Thad Lug comes back to demonstrate a typical day on the job as a worker condemned to come back to life in a new body every time he dies. (We checked with legal, it’s totally fine). And a duo of familiar-looking Superhero characters sue the corporation that owns them to ask for one simple thing: independence, and to save the soul of their culture. Honestly? we might give it to them! depends on how much they’re willing to pay! We’re not monsters!
But beyond the stories, the Monkey Meat Summer Batch magazine also offers you games, articles, and commercials to fully immerse yourself into our world, and maybe some day visit for real? Take a look at the pages below, and get yourself a copy to experience a tropical vacation you can actually afford!
A quote from Deniz Camp (Marvel Ultimates, 20th Century men, Assorted Crisis Events):
“Juni Ba is maybe the most original voice in western comics, and one of the best visual storytellers we've seen in years. MONKEY MEAT is his opus; dense, fast paced, satirical stories that span and mingle genres, where every page bursts with creativity, and every line is beautiful and considered. There's really nothing else like it in american comics. My highest recommendation!”
